I started Pilates when I was 3 months pregnant, a time of great emotional turmoil.  The wonderful thing about doing Pilates three times a week, was the opportunity for focus, concentration and total control for one hour each time.  Carla is an amazing Pilates instructor, after almost 3 years under her guidance, I can still hear her cues when I do my Pilates exercises, especially when I do them on my own.  There is a voice that reminds me to keep my shoulders down, engage, let my breathing flow, be graceful, put my heart in the exercise and so much more.  Till this day, whenever I do my child’s pose, I have the expectation of a quick back rub down, another one of Carla’s amazing qualities, she gives so much of herself during a session, you feel you are being taken care of like a young lion cub.

Carla is extremely precise, she will go over an exercise until you get it right and feels so happy to see her clients progress.  I so miss Carla’s instruction and her ability to push you to the limit and beyond your limits with such subtlety that you actually want to outdo yourself!  The end result is that you find that you can do so much more.  Now that I do Pilates in a group context, I often find that I am not getting as much of a workout, and even in private sessions I sometimes find that I can deliver so much more.

 Carla’s Pilates sessions have a calming quality about them, often she would end of with a relaxation and stretching session, just to release all the negative energy one picks up during the day.  It was not uncommon to roar like a lion on the floor at the end of a session, a perfect round up to an often intense session of Pilates.  Carla firmly believes in flowing movement and her sessions are intense largely due to the fact that you move from one exercise into the next without pausing in-between, the ab attack is an example of such flowing movement.

 Carla has inspired me not only to continue Pilates (the only form of exercise I have been consistent in), but also to become an instructor on a part time basis.  I can physically see how my body has changed, how my awareness is heightened and how beautiful I have become.  Carla has played a great role in my learning to value and honour my body, I have learnt to love it during Pilates as I have seen it become so much more beautiful. 

And perhaps this is the most important part of my journey with Pilates, it has given me a much greater sense of myself and increased my confidence.  You really have power and dominion over your body and can change it with Pilates.

As a Pilates coach, Carla radiates confidence through knowledge and continuing education. As a person, Carla has inspired me by her tremendous passion for life, for people, and for everything she undertakes. It is actually contagious and, together with her love for perfection, it has really served me as an example for my own projects and decisions. Carla’s ability to care for her family, herself and her creative projects with equal passion and dedication can only inspire by showing that, yes, it can all be done!

Today, as a first time mother-to-be, I can say that it is Carla who planted in my mind the seed of confidence in my own body and trust in my birthing power. No one else managed to help me shift from a deep fear of the birthing process to a growing trust in my ability to make it an empowering experience. I am deeply grateful to her for this.

Last, but not least, as a Pilates teacher Carla has truly changed my life. First, when she took me in for a few private lessons at a time when back and hips problems made my life very difficult. Carla inculcated the principles of Pilates into me in a way that made me grasp the intelligence, efficiency and grace of this method and, by doing this, initiated my path to recovery. Two years later she literally pushed me into a Pilates teacher’s course, and since then I have inwardly thanked her for it every day. Today, as I am progressing towards my certification, I can say that it is often Carla’s voice, gestures and expressions that inspire me as I am slowly learning to find my own style. Her uncompromising precision, always in my mind, has played a key part in me passing so far my exams with flying colors, as it is what helped me understand the “details” that make the essence of this method. I have had other Pilates teachers since. They all inspire me, each in their own way. But I can say that having started with Carla has given me a quality understanding that might have taken much more time to grasp otherwise.

I have no doubt that Carla’s Pilates studio in England will meet tremendous success. It cannot be otherwise. Quality, dynamism, dedication and genuine love of and compassion for others can only draw more people to come and benefit from Carla’s wonderful talents.

I have known Carla since 2001. At the time, although slender, my body was unfit and lacked toning especially in the abdominals. This also affected my emotions. In addition I was in the process of starting a new business which was highly stressful and took up a great deal of my time.

After extensively measuring my posture, fitness and blood pressure, Carla started out teaching me basic pilates. In three months I had lost 4 cm (2 inches) on my stomach. My body became more toned. I can only describe it as an all around subtle lift. I could wear a bikini without being shy!!

What I enjoyed most about Carla’s teaching methods is that she was aware of the weak and strong areas of all her students. She managed to work with us on our weak points and always reminded us of our strong points. The effect was that we really started feeling better about ourselves. Carla’s work on posture was brilliant.

Although Carla always taught us not to push our bodies too much, she always managed to get 120% out of us by positively encouraging us. We had constant positive feedback during the hundreds for example, which I simply could not complete initially! “Just one more! You can do it, I know you can!” resonates in my mind today.

Another amazing quality about Carla is that she was constantly researching everything she could find to help us better our bodies. Every week she had another interesting biological fact to give us about the human body. And she never made us try any exercise that she had not first tried out and perfected herself. She truly cared about us and our bodies at all times!

I really wish that I had spent even more time under her tutelage and I can guarantee that anyone who trains with Carla will notice excellent results!!!!!
